Don Franco Tafari's latest studio album, "The Last King of Mutapa," is a deeply personal and emotionally charged work of art. Created during a period of renewal as he renewed his vows in Rastafari, the album reflects profound experiences and spiritual growth.
Following the passing of his mother in 2022, Don Franco Tafari decided to cut his hair as a mark of respect, symbolizing a significant turning point in his life. After taking time to fully heal, he embarked on the next phase of his journey, transitioning from Mutapa Prince to Mutapa King.
Inspired by the early kingdom of Mutapa in Sub-Saharan Africa, where he traces his ancestry, the album consists of 6 tracks. The opening track, "Revelation," sets a spiritual and emotional tone for the project, serving as a Rasta Churchical Hymn that captures raw emotions and sets the stage for what's to come. The album's second track, "Ites Gold and Green," delves into the significance of the popular Rasta colors – red, gold, and green – within African and Rastafarian culture. "Pretty Likkle Daughter" stands out as a poignant tribute to fathers striving to express love for their children amid challenging circumstances in their relationships with the children's mothers.
"I n I Rasta," featuring Russian artist Rasta Veli MC, sheds light on the true meaning of Rastafarianism, reflecting a deeper understanding beyond superficial associations such as dreadlocks and herb smoking. "Cherubim and Seraphim" is a mystical and spiritual track that honors the holy angels of heaven, acknowledging their unseen protection. The album concludes with "Yah Works," a reflective track that encourages listeners to realize their life's purpose and embrace a sense of divine contribution in all their endeavors.
