The South African reggae fraternity, and particularly Skeleton Blazer, born Richmond Makapela, are jubilant as he won his first-ever Best Reggae Album at the 30th edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs). His album "Give Praises" which was released sometime in April 2024, earned a long overdue award at a glitzy ceremony held at the Gallagher Convention Centre on the 2nd of November 2024.
Skeleton Blazer who hails from Sebokeng, Vaal, has been a sensation in the reggae fraternity, captivating people with his performances and deep message. This was his third nomination for the SAMAs, but this year he managed to take home the trophy. “Give Praises" focuses on the life issues that ordinary people go through and gives them a sense of hope and fight, as reflected in his songs. For Skeleton Blazer, it is a personal achievement; however, the victory belongs to the entire reggae community in South Africa as the genre is slowly gaining ground.
With his award, Skeleton Blazer joins the ranks of legendary South African reggae icons, promising a bright future for reggae in the country. His success serves as an inspiration for aspiring artists, particularly in the Vaal, where his roots have played a key role in shaping his music.
