Phistojahmandra: Presents Reggae Dub Poetry Album "The Walls" [August 2022]

Born on February 5th, 1993, Phillimon Malesela Teffo, professionally known as Phistojahmandra, has been making a name for himself in the music industry since 2013. As a writer, singer, and poet, Phistojahmandra has carved out a niche for himself in the genres of reggae and reggae dub poetry.

Phistojahmandra's journey began at a young age, inspired by the likes of Lucky Dube, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, and Mutabaruka. Their love for reggae grew stronger with each passing year, and they started writing lyrics and poetry at the tender age of 15. This early start laid the foundation for their future endeavors.

In 2008, Phistojahmandra was admitted to the University of Limpopo to study Maths and Computer Science. During this period, they were exposed to computers and learned about music recording software. They built their own miniature studio and began recording and releasing songs written during their high school days. Their first radio interview at Turf FM in 2013 marked the beginning of their professional music career.

Phistojahmandra's first album, "Life of Today," a collaboration with Jahstamza, was released in 2017. This album compared life today with life during the beginning of time, offering a unique perspective on the contrasts between past and present. They have also worked on riddim projects with Mzansi reggae artists such as Lirootsy Tshilombe, Bongo Tee, Bashy Jahbless, Angolah Maseko, and others.

In 2019, Phistojahmandra released their first solo album, "Wicked Woman," which shed light on the often-overlooked issue of men facing abuse in their homes, particularly when unemployed. This poignant album served as a powerful reminder of the importance of awareness and support.

Phistojahmandra's passion for poetry grew during their studies at the University Of South Africa (UNISA), where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing. As part of their studies, they were exposed to poetry as a module from their first year of study. This exposure reignited their love for poetry and encouraged them to explore this form further.

During one of their recording sessions with Lirootsy Tshilombe, Phistojahmandra decided to record a poem. Lirootsy's encouragement led them to create more poetry songs. Their studies also provided an opportunity to learn about African History, which sparked a desire to research more about their own African heritage. With this newfound knowledge, Phistojahmandra began addressing African issues through poetry and reggae music.
